  • The ownership begins at the curb stop, which is located within a few feet of the street or curb line. The owner of the residence or business is responsible from that point to the structure. Included is all plumbing inside except the water meter itself.

  • The ownership of the sewer line begins at the center of the street to the structure. The owner is responsible for all street and curb repairs.

  • The City contracts out the garbage service to Waste Management. For questions, concerns, new service, etc., call 1-888-960-0008.

  • New customers need to stop by the City Hall, located at 126 North Marshall Avenue. They will need to fill out an application for service and pay the required deposit; $100 for residential and a two month average for businesses. This will cover electric, water and sewer services. A photo I.D. will be required at time of sign up.

  • If you are moving from one residence to another within city limits, you need to notify Public Utilities on or before the day you are moving so that meters can be read on the correct days. We will need to know the address you are moving out of and the date you will be moving out/closing date and also the address you are moving to and the date you take over services/closing date.

  • If you are moving out of Litchfield, or out of the city limits, you need to notify Public Utilities on or before the day you are moving so that meters can be read on the appropriate day. We will need a forwarding address to send your final bill.

  • Yes. All cats and dogs must be licensed in the City of Litchfield. You may license them at the City Hall. The cost is $5.00 for the life of the pet. If you should happen to lose or need to replace the license tag, the cost is $1.00.

  • In order for a new customer to sign up for utility service, an application for service needs to be completed and returned to City Hall, along with the required deposit of $100 for residents. Businesses need to contact City Hall for the deposit amount. A copy of a photo ID is required at time of sign up. The application for service can be found on the City Hall department page of this site.

  • The building permit application is available online under the Code Enforcement department page. Complete it the best you can and bring into Jim Tews at City Hall for completion. City Hall staff can assist and complete permits for small utility sheds, fences, reroofing, siding, central air/furnace installation or replacement and other such maintenance permits.
